nanoShell’s stone sealer and waterproofing team recently completed a basement waterproofing contract in Truro to a property that was part of a conversion from old Mill Buildings. These buildings form a historic and well-known area of Truro and have been used in many guises until their last conversion into beautiful, individual character homes.
The property had a stone basement accessed by stone steps from the main entrance hall. Previously, the area had been dry-lined but was still suffering from dampness and was only usable for basic storage. Our client wanted to utilise the area for an extra room to use as a play area and occasional guest room and include a utility area and shower room.
Our own Basement Tanking team specified basement systems products to waterproof the stone basement including a sump and pump system, waterguard drainage channel and thermal membrane to the walls. As the client wanted to use the area for utility and shower room facilities, nanoShell specified a dual use sump and pump station that could cope with solids, grey water and possible ground water ingress. The waterguard channel was cut into the floor perimeter and linked to the sump and pump system. The walls were lined with thermal membrane that increased the thermal quality of the area with immediate effect and will allow the client to provide a wall lining system later on as part of their fitting out works. The floor was finished with a cavity drain membrane to prevent free moisture ingress through the existing floor slab and provided a surface for the clients new floor finish to be overlaid.
nanoShell’s cost effective specification has provided the client with a dry and waterproof basement with excellent thermal value in which they can now develop their extra room with utility and shower areas. This will create valuable and useful extra space to the property and also add value to the property sale price.
